On Wednesday afternoon, Timothée Chalamet hinted to his 19.5 million Instagram followers that something was coming. Just what that washowever, he would not say.
While on his Stories, a black slide read, in an orange sans-serif font, “@voguemagazine 8PM,” a gallery shared to his grid showed the 29-year-old actor on a dimly lit indoor basketball court, wearing a gray hoodie and orange track pants, his figure doubled in a free-standing mirror; a fleet of people in black hoodies with enormous, orange Ping-Pong balls for heads (a familiar sight, by now, to anyone who’s been following Chalamet’s gonzo promotional tour for Marty Supremehis new sports drama with director Josh Safdie, out this Christmas); Chalamet again—far better lit this time, with his buzzcut on glorious display; and, finally, a rack of orange streetwear. Chalamet’s caption? Just “GRWM.”
What his fans wouldn’t know for 12 more agonizing hours was that Chalamet is Vogue’s December 2025 cover star. But when the curious tapped over to Vogue’s Instagram and YouTube pages on Wednesday night, a video was streaming. It started in darkness, with the unmistakable thwacks of a table tennis match. Then a muted yellow light came up, and a figure emerged in silhouette. He placed shoes in a row on the floor, then parked a rack of clothing nearby. A throaty laugh rang out from somewhere beyond the frame.
The figure, it soon became clear, was Chalamet himself. After flipping on more lights, he did a brief warm-up of a kind, stringing together some jumping jacks, push-ups, and quick sprints. Here and there, a Ping-Pong-headed person stalked through the space. But mostly, the eight-minute video saw Chalamet trying things on from the rack—much of it custom merch for Marty Supremewhich he’s been working on with designer Doni Nahmias and his stylist Taylor McNeill for months.
So, what was Chalamet getting ready for, exactly? The movie coming out? His big cover reveal? Another Oscar campaign? (We can only hope!) Director Aidan Zamiri, a long-time collaborator of his, would rather leave the answer to that question open—kind of like a game.
