Karl Urban is finally debuting his Johnny Cage — but not in Mortal Kombat 2.
On Wednesday, Warner Bros. unveiled a faux movie trailer starring Urban as Earthrealm champion and B-list movie star, Johnny Cage. While fans must wait just a little longer to see actual footage of the upcoming video game sequel, they can at least enjoy watching Urban — or, ahem, Johnny — kick ass in a ʼ90s-style action trailer.
Decked out in his signature shades and a retro outfit, Johnny strides into a warehouse to face off against a bunch of goons. And since it wouldn’t be a classic action trailer without a melodramatic voiceover, a Don LaFontaine-style “Voice of God” narrates his latest adventure.
“From the studio that brought you Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage and Rebel Without a Cage… comes Uncaged Fury,” says the gravelly voice.
Meanwhile, Johnny slowly puts on his sunglasses before declaring: “It’s showtime.”
He then launches into a martial arts melee that sees him take down several goons at once. At one point, one of his opponents manages to knock his sunglasses right off his face.
“They pissed him off. They f—ed with his shades. They should have brought more guys,” says the dramatic voice.
Proving the narrator’s point, Johnny retrieves his shades, puts them on, and knocks out all of the goons with a single pipe.
Over on Instagram, the official Mortal Kombat 2 page offered an even deeper dive into Johnny’s career with a glimpse at his IMBD profile. “Prepare for the return of Johnny F. Cage,” teased the post. “The F stands for…. Fantastically handsome.”
This sneak peek is just the beginning. Johnny was previously teased in the first Mortal Kombat movie, which featured a poster for his fictional Citizen Cage movie. The 2021 film ultimately culminated with former MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) heading to Los Angeles to pick up a new recruit for the battle ahead. When Mortal Kombat 2 picks up, Johnny’s skills will be on full display.

“You finally get to see Johnny Cage,” Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-creator previously teased to EW. “His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores. He’s a washed-up Hollywood guy thrown into this magical, ultra-violent thing.”

He also hinted that Urban may take the character in a slightly different direction by “adding his own flare to it,” but promised a “ridiculously hilarious” introduction to come for the fan-favorite character.
Mortal Kombat 2 is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 24. Watch Urban take down baddies as Johnny Cage in the trailer above.
