Three Ducks
- The hotel’s paths and gardens are planted with wildflowers and native grasses, which makes for an idyllic meadow-like view from the guest room windows.
- The Scandi-inspired rooms are spare but tranquil, with pops of soft color from textured textiles and fresh flowers.
- Amenities include complimentary bicycles, a convenient way to get to town or the nearby beaches, accessible within 15 minutes.
- The hotel—and Westhampton—are both lower-key than other options in glitzier parts of the Hamptons, so this is a great option for those who prefer a more easygoing getaway out East.
When the Westhampton SeaBreeze Motel opened just off the Montauk Highway in 1956, the heyday of the motor lodge was nearing its peak. Car ownership was on the rise—road tripstoo. Each new segment of the Long Island Expressway, then in the early days of construction, made it progressively easier for the ever-growing number of tourists to reach the seaside towns out East.
The SeaBreeze quickly became a Westhampton mainstay, a place for all types who needed an affordable place to lay their heads in the South Fork’s gateway town. It’s common for East End towns to have a somewhat seasonal dynamic, with many businesses catering to warm-weather tourists. But the SeaBreeze was open year-round.
Over the years, though, it began to show its age. As traveler tastes evolved and money transformed this part of the Hamptonssimilar motels in the area began to drop away. In late 2023, the SeaBreeze was put up for sale.

When Elizabeth Bakhash and Randall Stone acquired the motel not long after, they intended to keep much of what made the SeaBreeze a valuable Westhampton presence—and bring the rest a bit more squarely into the 21st century. Gone are the clapboard siding, linoleum-tiled floors, mini-fridge kitchenettes, and wide parking lot that once edged up to the guest room doors. Instead, a gut renovation reimagined the original building. Ceilings are higher, windows and doors are wider, and though the key count remains the same, the 12 units have been reconfigured to create a handful of larger rooms and suites. Three Ducks opened in May 2025.
Newly built is a freestanding space called the Barn, an all-in-one reception, breakfast room, cafe, boutique, and lounge. The parking lot has also been relocated to a more unobtrusive spot, the old asphalt expanse transformed into 1.6 acres of perennial gardens with wildflowers and native grasses, designed by landscape architect Lauren Barry of Project Plant.
The hotel’s unexpected name is a nod, in part, to the 1930s-era Big Duck statue beloved by locals, built to celebrate Suffolk County’s then-famous specialty poultry. But when I arrived, on a quiet Tuesday in September, I found not ducks but wild turkeys: a big flock of them, tottering around the gardens and poking around for bugs among the plants. Clearly, the hotel was already fitting right in.

The Rooms
Three Ducks has 12 guest rooms and suites across a low-slung linear building, each one with a small sitting area in the gardens outside the front door. There are no keys here—instead, you’ll get a text with a door code upon check-in.
All units are done up in a minimal, Scandi-inspired style, with custom millwork and soft colors that echo the serene abstract oil paintings by New York-based artist Thiciana Cruz, which hang above each bed. (There are wall-mounted smart TVs, too.) Those beds—either one king or two queens—have headboards upholstered in moss-like wool fabric by the Danish textile company Squareand are laid with ethereally fuzzy blankets by Ezcaray blankets. Bathrooms are tiled in hand-glazed zellige tiles by Marrakesh-based Popham Design and stocked with amenities by Flamingo Estate. In various corners, you’ll find bud vases with fresh flowers from Ocean Fog Farm in nearby Eastport.
Premium categories include two Roomy Rooms and a Room for More one-bedroom suite, which also has a pull-out couch and a small dining area. The suite can be connected to the adjoining room to accommodate a larger group. In fact, the hotel is available to book for exclusive use; buyouts include the option for event planning support in addition to standard concierge services.
Food and Drink
Three Ducks does not have an on-site restaurant, but guests will find fresh coffee and locally made snacks at the Barn. The modest continental breakfast spread, also served there, includes pastries from Blue Duck Bakery. Wines are available for same-day delivery from Six Corners Fine Wines & Spirits in Westhampton. Staff can also recommend restaurants in the area and make reservations.

The Spa
There is no dedicated spa space, but the property partners with a local spa for in-room Swedish or deep-tissue massages.

The hotel’s redesign included several measures to improve environmental impact and energy efficiency. Heating now comes from lower-emissions heat pumps, and the existing septic system has been replaced by an Innovative/Alternative (or IA) system designed to prevent excess nitrogen and other nutrients from entering the wastewater, which contributes to water-quality issues and harmful algae blooms.
All lighting comes from LED bulbs, and all structures are clad in ThermoWood, which is naturally weatherproof and made more durable through a chemical-free heat treatment. By planting the grounds with native species, the landscape design helps support local pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Glen Allsop/Three Ducks
Three Ducks is set right along Montauk Highway at the intersection with Seabreeze Avenue. (Accommodations are set back away from traffic, and my room was perfectly quiet.) It’s less than five minutes by car to the Westhampton Station of the Long Island Rail Road, which is also the stop for the Hampton Jitney bus. The hotel has free parking for those arriving in their own cars.
Westhampton and adjacent Westhampton Beach, long some of the quainter hamlets in the area, are starting to get more attention, with new openings like the renovation of the century-old Sunset Theater. Spots worth checking out include One Trick Ponywhich serves coffee in the morning and cocktails at night, and Floraa new American restaurant that’s consistently described as one of the best in town.
