There’s nothing I relish more about a new season than the opportunity to refresh my wardrobe for the occasion, and after doing a cursory scroll of Old Navy’s new selection of fall dropsI knew there were far too many pieces to choose from to complete my shopping from the comfort of my couch. So, I decided to brave Times Square in the name of fashion (a bold undertaking, I know), and strolled into the multi-level store to check out the seasonal offerings once and for all.
Distracted by a whirlwind of fall prints, patterns, and colors, I spent hours in the dressing room paring down my shopping cart for the select few travel essentials I couldn’t leave without, and ended up crafting eight versatile outfits that are well-suited for long flightssightseeing days, and everything in between. Don’t have time to head into the store for yourself? Keep reading to find exactly what’s worth adding to your packing list from Old Navy this fall—plus, score deals starting as low as $12.

Of all the outfits I tried on at Old Navy that day, this preppy yet surprisingly cozy cardigan and mini skirt combo was no doubt my favorite. True to its name, the SoSoft Lite V-neck Cardigan Sweater is, well, so softand its flattering fit looks great paired with this wrapped mini skirt that provides plenty of coverage without appearing too modest. I paired it with cranberry-colored slingback flats and an olive green bag, and could see myself wearing this outfit while strolling the streets of a European city in the fall. The waistband was comfortable to sit in (trust me, I tested), and I love that the cardigan can be worn either buttoned or open over a tank on warmer days.

The comfortable, relaxed drape of the Fit & Flare Crepe Lace-trim Mini Dress made it another top pick during my hours of shopping, and the darling lace detailing and fluttery sleeves offered a feminine touch that I contrasted with a chunky pair of chelsea boots. The dress is lightweight and breathable so it’s ideal for early fall before the temperatures drop too much. Since it’s not made from bulky fabric, it’ll layer well under a cute leather jacket—and the skirt is long enough that I won’t worry about feeling exposed. It looked gorgeous with the Large Preppy Bucket Bagand would be easy to dress up or down simply by swapping shoes and accessories during my next trip.

I spotted this nearly sold-out oversized rugby shirt online before heading into the store, and after trying it on, I instead opted for the Oversized Rugby Polo Shirt—that’s right, the kids version. As a petite shopper, it fit perfectly without overwhelming my frame. I even liked it paired with these slightly baggy, cream-colored jeans with studs adorning the legs.
I accessorized with the Large Preppy Bucket Bag which would actually make for an excellent personal item since it’s incredibly spacious and sleek, while the Studded Clogs finished off the look for $28. I love being casual during my travels, and the jeans were so comfy I could see myself wearing them to the airport instead of my typical loungewear uniform.

I like to wear dresses year-round, especially when I find pieces that are easy to throw on in a hurry, unrestrictive, and versatile. After stumbling upon the Mini Floral Swing DressI think I’ve met my match. The ultra-soft, almost gauzy fabric boasts a nice medium weight that won’t flutter away in the wind or cause me to overheat, and elastic at the waistband and neckline keep it in place with room to enjoy a delicious meal.
This darker-colored outfit looked gorgeous with the cream bucket bag, but it would look just as stylish with a small black shoulder bag or even a crossbody for sightseeing. Chunky Chelsea Boots add some edge, and I can just as easily see myself wearing this while shopping in New York as when enjoying a nice dinner on vacation.

My goal while building these outfits was to restyle some of the pieces in multiple ways, and I was able to do just that by pairing the darling High-waisted Wrap-front Mini Skirt with the flowy Ruffle-collar Cutwork Top that looks just like this high-end option for a mere $20. The neat ruffle collar and eyelet detailing along the hem add personality to the relatively simple blouse, and the slightly boxy cut is ideal for days when I’m not prepared to dress in skin-tight clothing. I opted to wear the top untucked over the skirt to show off the hem, and the pointed-toe Wide Strap Slingback Flats created a preppy look that’s on-trend and great for the fall.

I’ve decided that the old fashion rule of never wearing white after Labor Day no longer applies to me, and after seeing this monochromatic sweater and jean combo, how could you disagree? My closet is practically overflowing with cardigans, but I couldn’t help but add the SoSoft Cropped Cardigan Sweater to my cart since the fit was incredible and it can be styled so many different ways.
The High-waisted Baggy Wide-leg Studded Jeans were shockingly comfortable—the loose, wide legs didn’t feel even remotely restrictive, and I liked the detail of matching the studs on the pants with these studded chocolate-colored clogs. Want to dress it up a bit? Simply add heels and a petite shoulder bag, and you’re ready for dinner on the town.

As much as I adore ultra-feminine fashion, I’m also drawn to more oversized fits—especially while prioritizing comfort during my travels. The mid-weight Canvas Barn Jacket not only nails the aesthetic I was after, but also promises to be the perfect packable layer for fall travels while matching everything in my suitcase.
The front boasts two functional pockets, and it’s fitted with both zippers and snaps to keep out the cold. A unique corduroy collar is unlike anything else I have in my wardrobe already, and while I paired the coat with jeans and a simple T-shirt for this outfit, I also tried it on with nearly everything else I styled that day.

Further proving the versatility of this gorgeous cable-knit cardigan, this time I paired the fitted top with a pair of High-waisted Billie Wide-leg Trousers and some slingback flats to create a put-together look that’s well-suited for work travel without sacrificing comfort. The fit of the pants is the perfect straight-leg cut that doesn’t overwhelm my frame, and I adore the adjustable, elastic waistband for travel. Pointed flats and this faux-leather bucket bag make the look casual yet refined, and I’m already planning on wearing it on repeat this season.
