Donald Trump threatens to revoke Rosie O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship

In the latest development in Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump‘s yearslong feud, which dates back to her days as a cohost on The ViewTrump has threatened to revoke the actress and comedian’s United States citizenship after she moved to Ireland amid the 2024 presidential election.

“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

O’Donnell — a steadfast Trump critic who was born in 1962 in New York state — clapped back at the incendiary post on Saturday, using Instagram and Tiktok to respond to the president’s threat, which, according to a Harvard analysis, is not possible to execute on constitutional grounds.

“The president of the usa has always hated the fact that i see him for who he is – a criminal con man sexual-abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself,” O’Donnell wrote on Instagram. “This is why i moved to ireland – he is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy, compassion, and basic humanity.”

She continued, “I stand in direct opposition (to) all he represents- so do millions of others – u gonna deport all who stand against ur evil tendencies – ur a bad joke who can’t form a coherent sentence.”

She also shared an illustration to Instagram showing an artist’s interpretation of Trump with the words “he rapes” written on it. A jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in May 2023though Trump denied accusations of misconduct and called the subsequent case a “witch hunt.”

Roughly one year later, in May 2024, Trump was convicted on an additional 34 counts in his hush-money trial.

When reached for comment, a representative for O’Donnell told Entertainment Weekly“Please go to Rosie’s TikTok and Instagram for her full response. Nothing else will be said.”

EW has reached out to representatives for the White House for comment.

O’Donnell previously revealed in March that she moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old son, Clay, at the beginning of Trump’s second term in office.

“I’m here in Ireland, and it’s beautiful, and warm… Moved here January 15, and it’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving, so kind, and so welcoming, and I’m very grateful,” she said in a TikTok post at the time, adding that she “was never someone who thought I would move to another country” for political reasons.

She further explained her reasoning, though, stating that it has “been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically, and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.”

O’Donnell and Trump have feuded publicly for nearly two decades, with the former View cohost criticizing him during her tenure on the ABC talk show in 2007, drawing the future president’s ire. He has slammed her in turn over the years, including in a highly publicized jab during an August 2015 Republican primary debate in which he compared her to an animal.

Trump and his team have set their sights on current The View cohosts as well, with the president referring to moderator Whoopi Goldberg’s comedy as “filthy dirty” while calling the rest of the panelists — including former White House staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin — “really dumb people” in the run-up to the 2024 election.

On Friday, a member of his team told EW in a statement that Republican panelist Ana Navarro‘s recent on-air remarks criticizing the controversial “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention center in Florida were “wrong” and “stupid.”
