‘Survivor 48’ exclusive deleted scene shows Cedrek excited for challenge

There’s no other way to say it: rough week for Cedrek McFadden on Survivor 48.

Not only was the self-proclaimed “butt doctor” voted out of the game as part of a Vula-purging double elimination, but Cedrek also had another epic challenge fail, this time on land. The contest was a classic Survivor grip competition, and Cedrek lasted a total of 15 to 20 seconds… or, approximately 55 minutes and 45 seconds less than eventual winner David Kinne.

Making matters even worse, we have an exclusive deleted scene from the episode showing that Cedrek was actually excited for the challenge and the opportunity to show everyone what he was made of.

The scene, which can be watched above, begins with Sai Hughley (not a great week for her either) returning with Tree Mail, which she then proceeds to read to the tribe. “A test of pure will, the pinnacle of competing, will immunity slip through your fingers? Victory feels great, and yet it’s just fleeting, the haunting burn of the snuff long lingers.”

Theories immediately abound as to what it can mean, with Cedrek correctly predicting to the group that “I think it’s the holding this thing, like holding the rope, like your weight or something.”

Indeed, Cedrek was right on the money that the challenge was none other than Charlie Davis’ favorite — a contest that tested grip strength. (And one that none other than Star Toomey hoped to never see.) But Cedrek, believe it or not, was downright delighted about the upcoming competition.

“We get Tree Mail this morning,” he explains in a confessional interview. “And it sounds like an immunity challenge. It sounds like it’s going to be a test of will. This makes me a little bit excited because I have a lot of will. I have a lot of willpower and I’m hoping this is my chance to shine with at least an immunity challenge and show that I can be a fierce competitor as well.”

Ummmm… that is unfortunately not how it ended up playing out, especially considering Cedrek lasted in the challenge approximately the same amount of time it took him to tell us about his incredible willpower.

But there was one other player who couldn’t wait to show what he was made of. “This morning, we got Tree Mail,” David says in the scene. “No shock there, but I’m just chomping at the bit to compete against these other survivors. There are some strong competitors this year, and I’m excited to see what they’re capable of. I’m excited to see what’s in them and inside of me.”

What was outside of David after that challenge was a big, gaudy immunity necklace, something Cedrek certainly could have used considering his fate later that night. Hey, at least he made the jury! (Sorry, Sai.)
