This Island Was Just Named the Safest Country in the Caribbean for Low Crime and Calm Beaches

Personal safety in a country is important to understand before taking any vacation, and a new report spotlights how some Caribbean countries are safer than others.

Anguillawith its many beaches and bustling culinary scene, has earned new recognition as the safest country in the Caribbean, according to a new report from World Population Review. The rankings were generated as part of the organization’s Global Peace Index, which reviews crime activity, safety and policing expenses, political stability, and more,

“Anguilla crime rates are the lowest in the Caribbean with very few violent and petty crimes to mar its reputation as a tropical oasis,” the report shares.

Known for its 33 white sand beaches, travelers from around the world find a mix of peace, solitude, and adventure throughout Anguilla. The country is also acclaimed for its golf, complete with a Greg Norman-designed golf course on the island.

Water enthusiasts can also enjoy boat racing, sailing, and even an overwater obstacle course. The region is also known for its fine dining and bustling food scene, and has been branded as the “Culinary Capital of the Caribbean.”

“On this island, really delectable food is part of the culture, identity, and day-to-day life,” Anguilla’s tourism board shares on its website.

Anguilla was also ranked as one of the top islands globally, and the highest ranked in the Caribbean, within Travel + Leisure’s 2025 World’s Best Awards.

Following Anguilla, Barbados, St. Barthélemy, Martinique, and the Cayman Islands ranked in the top five as the safest countries in the Caribbean. Over 34 million tourists visited the Caribbean region in 2024, which was a six percent increase from the year prior, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

While these rankings may be helpful, travelers should also evaluate other metrics and rankings for a comprehensive view of safety throughout the Caribbean. For example, an August 2025 list of the safest countries in the Caribbean ranked Aruba as the safest, followed by Barbados, a tie between Grenada & Curaçao, followed by Antigua & Barbuda.

Beyond the Caribbean, travelers should consult the United States Department of State for up-to-date safety information on whichever country they are visiting. The agency also assigns an advisory level for all countries. For reference, Anguilla currently has the lowest advisory level, which is Level 1 or “exercising normal precautions”.

The State Department also offers a free service, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides special updates and information in advance and during a traveler’s international trip.
